What to Expect
We offer the following assessment options:

Initial Discussion
In the initial discussion, your physiotherapist will discuss your concerns, collecting detailed information about how you feel and what issues you face.

Our goal is to fully understand how your pelvic issues are impacting on your life and what we can do to help you achieve your goals.

Ultrasound Examination
Your pelvic floor function can be assessed using real-time ultrasound.

This involves the placement of the ultrasound probe on your lower abdomen to view the base of your bladder. When you contract/relax your pelvic floor muscles the base of your bladder moves up and down, providing great feedback.

Physical Examination
If you are comfortable to proceed, an internal vaginal or rectal assessment can help gain further information about your problem and pelvic floor function.

Further discussion and explanation about this procedure is given and written consent is required. An internal examination is optional, it is not a requirement.
Following the assessment:
Your physiotherapist will confirm your goals and summarise her understanding of your main concerns. She will explain her assessment findings to help make sense of your problems and discuss ways to achieve your goals, discussing evidence based treatment options and making a care plan centered around your preferences.
